Corona-related product ideas – Corona-related mechanical projects

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, and has since spread globally, resulting in an ongoing pandemic. Common symptoms include fever, cough, fatigue, shortness of breath, and loss of smell and taste. The virus is mainly transmitted between people during close contact, most often through small droplets produced by coughing, sneezing and talking. Droplets often fall to the ground or surfaces rather than traveling long distances through the air. Less commonly, people can become infected by touching a contaminated surface and then touching their face.

Preventive measures against Corona:

Recommended measures to prevent infection include:

  • Frequent hand washing,
  • Maintain physical distance from other people (especially those with symptoms),
  • Quarantine (especially for those showing symptoms),
  • Cover your cough and keep dirty hands away from your face.

The use of fabric face coverings, such as a scarf or bandana, is recommended in public places to minimize the risk of transmission, and some authorities require their use. Medical-grade face masks, such as N95 masks, should only be used by healthcare professionals, first responders, and those caring for infected individuals.

Corona-related mechanical project ideas:

To prevent community spread of coronavirus, preventive measures must be taken in accordance with government and World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. To deal with this corona related situation, people are coming up with some better and effective solutions to COVID 19 related problems. Combinations of social distancing, home quarantine, closure of schools and universities and isolation of cases are now being widely practiced. Creativity is being implemented every day to overcome barriers to responding to those at work and meeting the needs of those asked to stay at home.

In this article, we will discuss some projects, products related to COVID 19 or coronavirus. Some manufacturing companies have started production of preventive safety equipment against corona. With this post, mechanics students will get some ideas, topics for their final year project presentation. Also, this post may motivate some students to develop a solution to corona-related problems.

1. Pedal Operated Simple Sand Sanitizer Stand:

Frequent hand hygiene with disinfectant liquid is essential to kill bacteria present on your hands. To avoid contact/touching with the disinfectant bottle, a foot-operated stand is used. This bracket can be manufactured using simple tubes and sheet metal brackets and brackets. This holder consists of a foot operating lever, tube frame, disinfectant bottle holder and bottle holder position adjustment knob. When the foot lever is pressed, the tubes move downward and the disinfectant bottles are activated. This product can cost around 10 to 15 dollars.

2. Sanitation Disinfection Door Design – Sanitization Booth

Sanitation disinfection door or tunnel is used to reduce unwanted bacteria and viruses from clothing or the outside of objects. This sanitary disinfection door or sanitizing booth can be made of plastic, metal (MS and SS).

The main parts used to make this configuration are stainless steel sheet, spray nozzle, motion sensor, electric agricultural sprayer, piping, timer, relay circuit, etc.

This device can be used in public places such as bus stops, shopping malls, companies, cinema halls, temples, parks, hospitals, etc.

3. Foot Operated Water Faucet Mechanism/Touchless Hand Washing and Sanitizing Arrangement:

This concept is similar to a foot-operated sanitizing machine. Additionally, hand washing can also be done touch-free with the help of a foot-operated mechanism. There are several pedal operating devices available that act as a valve. This valve is operated by a pedal. The device ensures hands-free water supply from a plumbing system to ensure defense against cross-infection of viruses and microbes as well as prevent water wastage.

When the pedal is pressed, the valves enter the ON position and water comes out of the WATER TAP.

Benefits:

  • Hands-free, pedal operated
  • Reduces water waste
  • Eliminates human error
  • Easy to use
  • Durable
  • Cost benefit.

4. Screw Operated Mechanical Fan:

  • A ventilator is a machine that provides mechanical ventilation by moving breathable air in and out of the lungs, to provide breaths to a patient who is physically unable to breathe, or breathing insufficiently. Modern ventilators are computerized, microprocessor-controlled machines, but patients can also be ventilated with a simple, manually operated bag valve mask. Ventilators are primarily used in intensive care medicine, home care and emergency medicine (as stand-alone units), and in anesthesiology (as a component of an anesthesia machine).

  • In its simplest form, a modern positive pressure ventilator consists of a compressible air reservoir or turbine, air and oxygen supplies, a set of valves and tubing, and a disposable or reusable “patient circuit.”
  • Ventilators can also be equipped with monitoring and alarm systems for patient-related parameters (e.g., pressure, volume, and flow) and ventilator function (e.g., air leak, power failure, mechanical failure), backup batteries , oxygen tanks and remote control.
  • Modern ventilators are electronically controlled by a small onboard system to allow exact adaptation of pressure and flow characteristics to individual patient needs.

5. Sensor Operated Automatic Hand Sanitizing Machine:

An infrared (IR) proximity sensor and a small solenoid are combined here to make the automatic soap dispensing unit powered by 6 volts DC. When the infrared sensor detects the proximity of a hand, it enables the solenoid driver. The resulting voltage available at the driver output energizes the solenoid.

Main components:

  • External body
  • Sanitizer Container
  • Solenoid valve
  • diaphragm pump
  • Mist Atomizer
  • Waterproof non-contact ultrasonic sensor
  • Switching Power Supply (SMPS)
  • Control circuit.

    6. Sanitizing mechanical spray pump for cleaning domestic environments:

Spraying is traditionally done by a labor-intensive backpack sprayer, which requires more human effort. The objectives of this concept are a modification of the agricultural sprayer to sanitize the surroundings of the house frequently, without using hands to pump and holding the pump on the human/operator's back.

It consists of a spoked bicycle wheel connected to an oscillating hand pump lever using a chain and sprocket mechanism. All components are fixed to the frame or body. When the structure is pushed forward, the movement of the wheel is transmitted to the lever and the pumping action occurs.

More concepts will be added soon. If you have any interesting ideas, concepts related to the COVID 19 problem, please comment below or contact me at thoratsachin027@gmail.com . Colleges and universities should place more emphasis on medical-related project tasks for students.
