Government announces aid measures for Rio Grande do Sul after floods: see what is being done

Rio Grande do Sul is facing one of the worst crises in years due to floods that have devastated cities, leaving a trail of destruction and thousands of homeless people. Faced with this scenario, the federal government announced a package of measures to help the state recover. Salary Allowance

The government intends to bring forward the payment of the 2024 salary bonus for workers in Rio Grande do Sul, benefiting around 705 thousand people. This represents a fiscal impact of R$758 million. This measure aims to inject money into the local economy, helping workers deal with the difficulties caused by the floods.

Unemployment insurance

For unemployed people who were already receiving unemployment insurance before the calamity decree, two additional installments of the fund will be released. Around 140 thousand people will benefit, with an impact of R$495 million. This measure aims to guarantee a minimum income for those who lost their jobs due to the floods.

Income Tax Refund

Filers from Rio Grande do Sul will have priority in receiving their income tax refund. Payment will be made in June, totaling an impact of R$1 billion. This measure aims to alleviate the finances of taxpayers who were affected by the floods.

Bolsa Família and Gas Aid

Payments of Bolsa Família and Auxílio Gás for the month of May will be brought forward to families in Rio Grande do Sul, benefiting around 583 thousand families. The financial impact of this measure is R$380 million. This anticipation seeks to guarantee these families’ access to essential resources in this time of crisis.

Funds for States and Municipalities

The government intends to release R$200 million for project structuring funds from June onwards, aiming to support the reconstruction of infrastructure and the economic rebalancing of the state. These resources will be essential to accelerate the recovery of areas affected by the floods.

Credit Acceleration

A task force will be created to accelerate credit analysis with Union support for municipalities affected by the floods. 14 municipalities will benefit from loan operations in May, totaling an impact of R$1.8 billion. This measure aims to guarantee access for city halls to resources for reconstruction and recovery of affected areas.

Pronampe and Interest Discount

A contribution of R$4.5 billion from the Operations Guarantee Fund is expected for Pronampe, benefiting small businesses from May onwards. Furthermore, the government intends to give a discount of R$1 billion in interest on credits acquired through the program, totaling a discount of R$2.5 billion. These measures aim to support small business owners who were harmed by the floods.

Extension of Simples Nacional

The collection of Simples Nacional taxes will be suspended for 3 months, benefiting 203 thousand companies, with an impact of R$4.8 billion. This measure aims to alleviate the finances of companies affected by the floods, allowing them to recover more quickly.

Support for Rural Producers

Rural producers will not need to present a negative debt certificate for contracting and renegotiating credit with public banks. Furthermore, the Treasury wants to offer a discount of R$1 billion on interest for small rural producers registered with Pronaf and Pronamp. These measures aim to support rural producers who were affected by the floods, ensuring that they have access to credit and can continue their activities.
