Design and Manufacturing of Bamboo Cutting Machine – Slicer

In the current bamboo peeling process, several steps are involved to make the strips: (1) Bamboo cross cutting, (2) Bamboo splitting, (3) Bamboo slicing. Therefore, the basic objective of this approach is to make a single machine that can perform all the above processes.

Bamboo, commonly known as “cradle to coffin” wood, is closely associated with human life and sustenance. Almost a thousand
Five hundred uses of bamboo have been documented so far. The diverse uses of bamboo range from agricultural equipment to storage devices, from dolls to measuring tools, from furniture to decorative items.

Domestic use:

Since time immemorial, bamboo products have been widely used in rural households in the form of bhogai, tukli, kulei, koola, dala, pedi, binchana, etc. Artifacts made from bamboo; containers, etc., are indispensable in some Hindu ceremonies. Bamboo products are prerequisites in the marriage ceremonies of many tribes and castes in Orissa.

The people of the neighboring state of Jharkhand and Bihar also include bamboo products during many of their rituals. Bamboo remains an integral part of cultural practices in the region.
Furthermore, forestry production has also helped subsistence practices such as agriculture. The agricultural sector continues to be the largest
consumer of bamboo products. From sowing to grain storage, bamboo items find wide use. Baskets, containers, plows, boards, winnowers, and a variety of other articles are used in all operations in agriculture.

Problem identification and research methodology:

Traditionally, bamboo is processed in different stages and a different machine is required for each stage, which is time-consuming and more expensive. Therefore, there is a need to manufacture a machine that can perform multiple operations. Therefore, here the main objective is to develop a bamboo stripping machine to reduce the number of steps and also to reduce the number of machines required to carry out the stripping operation.

Bamboo Cutting Machine – Agricultural Mechanical Projects

Bamboo is a very useful plant for both humans and animals. Using the bamboo plant one can make houses, furniture, food packaging devices, toys, musical instruments and many other applications.

This machine can split bamboo along the length, which gives the number of slices. The machine concept is shown here. The entire assembly is mounted on the structure. The structure is bolted to the ground floor. The lead screw is placed in horizontal direction, both ends of the lead screw are fixed with the frame using bearing and bearing block.

Cutter is a cutting element that does not have a cutter, i.e. . Cutting blades mounted radially along the circular disc. The disc has some opening passage to guide the bamboo.

Another important part here is Bamboo pushing mechanism .it involves backlash free screw nut, pressure plate, L angle and side pulleys with handrail. the lead screw nut is engaged with the lead screw shaft. The plate is fixed with flange which is on the lead screw nut using nuts and bolts. For additional extra support on both sides, pulleys with horizontal guide rails that are fixed parallel to the lead screw.

Lead screw rotation speed can be controlled by reducing the speed of the single-stage gearbox. the motor is the power source and drives the lead screw.

Machine operation:

The work is easy. When the engine is started, it turns the gears and lead screw. As soon as the lead screw rotates, the nut starts moving forward along the lead screw, i.e. in the horizontal direction. The bamboo must be placed between the cutting blade and the pressure plate by the worker or operator.

As the nut moves forward, it pushes the bamboo toward the cutter and the bamboo is cut into multiple slices. To reverse the machine to the home position, we can reverse the direction of the motor using some kind of switching circuit and arrangement.
