Sheet Metal Bending Guidelines Explained

Bending is a stamping process that uses pressure to plastically deform the material, forming a specific angle and curvature shape. Common curves include V-curves, Z-curves, offset curves, and hem curves, among others.

Push-up height

The minimum bending height of the metal sheet must be calculated as 2 times the sheet thickness plus the bending radius, i.e. H ≥ 2t + R.

As illustrated in the attached figure, if the bending height is too low, the sheet metal will be subject to deformation and twisting during the bending process, leading to suboptimal part shape and dimensional accuracy.
