AISI ASTM 430 Stainless Steel Heat Treatment
- Annealing: The recommended annealing treatment for 430 steel is 705-790°C (1300-1450°F).
- Forging: Typical forging temperature for SS430 is 815-1120°C (1500-2050°F).

Welding
The ductility of type 430 (SS430) stainless steel is lower than that of austenite type, therefore weld cracking is more likely to occur, and a large amount of martensite is formed during cooling after welding, thus increasing sensitivity to cracks when cold. It is recommended to preheat to a temperature of 150-230 °C to minimize cracking of the weld.
Corrosion resistance
AISI 430 (SS430) stainless steel is suitable for use in mild atmospheres as well as mild oxidizing acids and organic acids. Type 430 stainless steel is limited in sulfuric acid environment; AISI 302 or 304 stainless steel replaces AISI 430 stainless steel in industrial environments; In the food processing environment, AISI 304 is commonly used; Marine environment, highly polluted atmosphere, harsher chemicals and corrosives require AISI 316 stainless steel or higher alloy materials
