Among the main directions are railway transport and the modernization of Black Sea ports

Canadian companies are considering opportunities to invest in the Ukrainian transport industry. This was discussed at a meeting of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade with the Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine, Natalie Tsmoc, the Ministry said.

The parties discussed the main priorities for the restoration and development of the Ukrainian transport industry and the attraction of private capital.

The Ministry already has a successful experience of cooperation with Canada, in particular within the scope of the SURGe Project, a project financed by the Canadian government.

“At the same time, the transport sector remains one of the most attractive investment opportunities, even despite the war, and we are focusing our attention on increasing land and river export capacity, both in the long and short term.” , said Alexander Kubrakov Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine, Minister of Community Development, Territorial and Infrastructure Development.

Currently, Canada is considering rail transport, including multimodal transport, the modernization of Ukrainian Black Sea ports and the development of land border crossings as the main areas of investment. It is also considering shipbuilding and assistance in the rapid restoration of civil aviation.

As the GMK Center previously reported, last November Ukraine became a full participant in the EU's Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program, with the relevant agreement ratified by Parliament. The CEF program is part of the Solidarity Roads initiative and its implementation will help improve Ukraine's transport links with the EU and establish exports to Europe as a whole. It will also attract EU funding to support the development of trans-European networks in transport, energy and digital services.
