Do you have old bearings in stock and don't know whether or not to use them? Well, you should know that storing bearings for periods longer than 3 years is definitely not recommended. This applies to both open bearings and bearings lubricated with protective shields or sealing rings.
It is not recommended to store bearings with special lubrication for very long periods as changes in the chemical-physical behavior of the lubricating grease may occur during the storage period.
However, if you think that the bearings can be well preserved and that there are at least minimal performance capabilities, it might be a good idea to also stock up on lubricating grease that you can use to lubricate the bearings.
As a rule, bearings can be used even after the permitted storage times have been exceeded, as long as the conservation conditions during storage and transport are respected. If the conditions are not respected, shorter storage times must be taken into account. If this period is exceeded, it is recommended to analyze the bearing before use, ensuring that there are no traces of corrosion and that the condition of the anti-corrosion oil and lubricating grease is intact.
