During the year, 1,308.3 km of roads were renewed through various types of repairs
Based on the results of 2023, Ukrzaliznytsia JSC increased the volume of road repairs by 19.6% compared to 2022 – up to 1,308.3 km. This is stated in press release railway operator.
In particular, 495.6 km of tracks were restored through major repairs, which is 5.7% more than in 2022, and 812.7 km of tracks were restored through medium repairs (+30% y/y) .
Additionally, 284 turnout sets were renovated last year. The average repair involved upgrading 690 sets of turnouts. Furthermore, in 2023, Ukrzaliznytsia restored 6.6 km of tracks and 30 artificial structures damaged as a result of hostilities.
The railway operator intends to update 1,197.5 km of tracks with various types of repairs by 2024.
Last year, routine repairs were carried out on almost 8 thousand km of the contact network on the main routes at stations and stages. In the traction substations, 18 transformers were renovated and 31 current and voltage transformers were replaced.
As reported by us, Ukrzaliznytsia built 528 freight cars at its own facilities by the end of 2023, which was a record in the last five years. In particular, 427 assembly platforms were manufactured last year.
The company's plans for 2024 include, among other things, a 15% increase in the volume of locomotive overhauls at the Ukrzaliznytsia factory facilities, electric trains by 8% and the development of new products and technologies.
Last year, UZ reduced the transport of iron ore and manganese by 13.2% compared to 2022 – to 27.5 million tons. The transportation of metal products last year amounted to 8.2 million tons, 10.6% less than in 2022. In general, the rail freight transportation of the mining and metallurgy industry was 35.7 million tons, which represents 24% of the total transport volume in 2023.
