Schaeffler and Siemens: collaboration on artificial intelligence

Motion Technology Company Schaeffler and technology company Siemens signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at Hannover Messe. The objective of this collaboration is to promote the use of artificial intelligence in the industrial sector, making a significant and joint contribution to defining the digital production of the future.

Presentation of Collaboration in Siemens Industrial Copilot

During the fair, Schaeffler and Siemens once again presented their successful collaboration with “Siemens Industrial Copilot”, an industrial automation solution based on artificial intelligence. This technology is connected to a production machine from Schaeffler Special Machinery in Hannover Messe. Thanks to the AI assistant, the work of employees on the factory floor becomes much more efficient, as complex automation codes can be generated even in natural language.

Schaeffler's Vision for Digitalization

“Digitalization is one of Schaeffler’s priorities,” says Klaus Rosenfeld, CEO of Schaeffler AG. “The use of AI-based solutions is crucial to making production processes more innovative, agile and efficient. With Siemens, Schaeffler has a highly relevant industrial partner at its side to accelerate the development and targeted implementation of generative artificial intelligence solutions, creating added value for our customers.”

Innovation in Factories with Siemens and Schaeffler

“Siemens and Schaeffler are at the forefront of the journey towards highly automated and digital factories. With 'Siemens Industrial Copilot' we are bringing the capabilities of generative artificial intelligence to Schaeffler workshops,” says Cedrik Neike, Member of the Board of Management of Siemens AG and CEO of Digital Industries. “Together, we demonstrate how AI is revolutionizing manufacturing, from machine code generation to AI-based maintenance. And this is just the beginning.”

Implementing AI solutions at Schaeffler

Schaeffler already uses several AI solutions in multiple applications. The “Siemens Industrial Copilot” operates in pilot mode in a robotic cell at Schaeffler Special Machinery, a unit dedicated to the construction of special machines within the Schaeffler Group. This project was developed jointly by Schaeffler and Siemens. The AI solution performs tasks such as creating complex programming codes for production processes, thereby reducing costs for machine operators. The “Siemens Industrial Copilot” also has access to relevant documentation, guidelines and manuals to help employees identify possible causes of errors. The AI-based assistant offers even more potential when it comes to matching or machine validations.

Better human-machine interaction

At Schaeffler, the “Siemens Industrial Copilot” will make human-machine interaction more intuitive, efficient and faster. Andreas Schick, Chief Operating Officer at Schaeffler AG, says: “We are at the beginning of a decade of efficiency at Schaeffler. The 'Siemens Industrial Copilot' demonstrates that artificial intelligence can already be used in manufacturing today. With Copilot, we offer our workshop experts an innovative digital tool that simplifies their work and significantly increases their efficiency. We are taking production to a new digital level in collaboration with Siemens.”
