Lathe attachments are used to hold and support the work or to hold the cut. The various accessories of the lathe are discussed below
Before reading this you must know Basic information about lathe and lathe specifications.
These accessories generally include, for example, in the case of;
• Central lathes: chucks, collets, faceplate, fixed supports and followers, centers, tool holders, etc.

1. Centers.
a) There are two types of centers, i.e., living center and dead center.
b) A center that fits into the headstock spindle and rotates with the workpiece is called a live center.
c) The center that is used in a tailstock spindle and does not rotate is called dead center.
Living and Dead Centers2. Chucks.
i) Universal three-jaw chuck.
The three-jaw universal chuck as shown in Fig. is also called self-centering chuck or scroll chuck. Thus, the chuck is used to hold round and hexagonal work.
3 Jaw Chuck Lathe Accessoriesii) Independent four-jaw chuck.

3. Lathe or conveyor
a) The work placed on a mandrel or clamped between centers is positively rotated, holding the dog or conveyor until the end of the work.
b) This is engaged with a pin attached to the drive plate or faceplate.
c) The clamp or conveyor of the lathe can be straight type or bent type, as shown in Fig.

4. Drive plate
a) The drive plate, as shown in Fig., is a circular plate that is drilled and threaded so that it can be fixed to the spindle tip.
lathe accessory drive plateb) It also has a hole for the pin that is only used when the work is carried out on a lathe with a straight tail. When a dog with a bent tail is used, this pin is removed and the bent part of the tail is inserted into the hole
5) Front plate.
lathe accessories faceplatea) The front plate, as shown in Fig., is similar to the drive plate, except for the larger diameter.
b) Contains more open slots or T-slots so that screws can be used to secure the part to the face of the board.
c) The faceplate is used to hold workpieces that cannot be clamped conveniently in a chuck.
6. Angle plate.
a) An angle plate is simply a cast iron plate with flat faces perpendicular to each other and with slots in various positions for fastening screws.
chunk. is always used with the faceplate to hold parts that cannot be clamped against the vertical surface of the faceplate.
7. Chucks.
Lathe chucksa) The lathe chuck is a cylindrical bar with a central hole at each end. It is used to hold hollow parts to machine their outer surface.
b) The work rotates with the chuck that is mounted between the centers of the lathe. The various types of chucks used for different classes of work are shown in Fig.
8. Stable, follower and other rests
Long parts often need to be supported in the middle, as cutting tools can push (bend) the part away from where the centers can support them, because cutting the metal produces tremendous forces that tend to vibrate or even bend the part . This extra support can be provided by teady rest (also called steady, steady rest, center rest, or sometimes confusingly, center rest) . It is stationary from a rigid base mount and supports the workpiece in the center of the rest, typically with three contact points 120° apart.
a constant restA follower rest (also called a traveling follower or constant) is similar, but is mounted on the carriage rather than the base, which means that as the tool bit moves, the follower rest “follows” (because both are rigidly connected to the same moving car)
