With compact dimensions and an input voltage range of 6 to 75V, the STMicroelectronics L3751 synchronous buck controller suits different applications, from industrial equipment to battery-powered light electric vehicles.
The 3.5 x 4.5 mm controller is also suitable for use in telecommunications and networking equipment that feature commonly used 24 and 48 V buses.
With a minimum duration of 40 ns, the L3751 can support an extremely low duty cycle, thus enabling a large reduction rate. This allows you to power low-voltage devices directly without intermediate conversion, which helps simplify circuit design and reduce bill of materials costs.
The device also integrates a 7.5V power supply for the gate drivers.
In addition to having a wide supply voltage range, the L3751 has 100 V tolerant inputs that allow operation in aggressive electrical environments. The switching frequency is adjustable from 100 to 1 MHz, giving designers flexibility to optimize circuit size, performance and cost through the selection of external MOSFETs and passive components.
To increase efficiency and minimize ripple, the L3751 operates in diode emulation mode and with pulse hopping at light loads.
The L3751 offers extensive protection functions, including thermal protection, input undervoltage blocking, constant current protection with hiccup mode, and programmable current detection. There is also an external enable pin and an open collector good power indicator.
The 100W STEVAL-L3751V12 evaluation board is available to help designers accelerate device selection in power supply development.
