STMicroelectronics, a global semiconductor supplier serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, has unveiled new microcontrollers (MCUs) aimed at upcoming electrified powertrains and domain-driven, over-the-air upgradeable systems that are the foundation of the next generation of EVs.
As vehicles generate, process and transfer large streams of data, especially to support the next generation of EVs, ST's new Stellar P automotive MCUs are the industry's first qualified devices for model year 2024 vehicles to integrate the new CAN-XL in the car. communication standard. This technology allows new vehicle platforms to handle increasing streams of data so the car can operate at peak performance.
“Stellar P6 real-time, low-power automotive microcontrollers combine advanced integration of motion control and power management domains with actuation capabilities, ensuring a smooth shift from traditional ICEs/EVs to new architectural drive patterns and software-defined vehicle traction. ,” said Luca Rodeschini, Vice President Automotive and Discrete, Strategic Business Development and Automotive Processing and General Manager RF at STMicroelectronics.
“As the automotive industry begins work on new vehicle platforms for the 2024 model year, ST is ready with microcontrollers to support development and ease the transition to vehicle production,” he added.
ST's Stellar family of automotive MCUs is designed to support automakers and Tier1s during the transition to software-defined vehicles. Stellar now includes several series:
- The Stellar E series ensures fast real-time control and system miniaturization in power conversion applications, maximizing the benefits of SiC and GaN power technology in on-board charging of EVs, DC-DC converters and traction inverters, among other applications .
- Stellar G-series MCUs act as a secure data HUB and a secure, real-time aggregator of functions within the body domain, particularly for zonal architectures.
This series implements best-in-class OTA updates, low-power modes, and data routing across a broad set of automotive communications protocols.
- The new Stellar P series of automotive MCUs offers qualified devices that combine advanced actuation capabilities with powerful function integration. Stellar P devices target new electric vehicle drivetrain trends and domain-driven architectures for the best real-time performance and power management.
