Rohde & Schwarz and ETS-Lindgren Partner on 5G A-GNSS Antenna Performance Testing

ETS-Lindgren and Rohde & Schwarz continue their long-term collaboration and have enabled antenna performance measurements with comprehensive Assisted Global Navigation Satellite System (A-GNSS) capabilities for 5G NR.

The R&S CMX500 OBT Broadband Radio Communication Tester and R&S SMBV100B GNSS Simulator in conjunction with ETS-Lindgren's EMQuest software support current and evolving location-based 5G NR service standards. Both Rohde & Schwarz instruments can be seamlessly integrated into new and existing CTIA-compliant over-the-air (OTA) antenna measurement solutions from ETS-Lindgren.

ETS-Lindgren has teamed up with Rohde & Schwarz for a complete 5G NR A-GNSS antenna performance testing solution using the R&S CMX500 OBT broadband radio communications tester and R&S SMBV100B vector signal generator with GNSS simulator in its market-leading OTA antenna performance measurement solution.

When test equipment from Rohde & Schwarz is combined with CTIA-compliant EMQuest antenna measurement software and camera systems from ETS-Lindgren, they provide comprehensive 5G NR A-GNSS test capabilities.

The fifth generation of cellular communications (5G NR) utilizes existing and new location-based services such as assisted GNSS (A-GNSS), where radio technology provides information about available satellites for faster positioning. Satellite-based positioning remains critical for cellular devices and GNSS has been improved with additional constellations for better accuracy and integrity of signal reliability.

The Rohde & Schwarz R&S CMX500 Single Box Tester (OBT) is one of the most capable single box 5G, LTE and Wi-Fi network emulators on the market and features a location-based services server that works seamlessly with the R&S SMBV100B GNSS simulator. Both instruments combine to form the most powerful solution for LTE and 5G NR A-GNSS testing that meets OTA antenna performance testing requirements and is ideal for ETS-Lindgren's EMQuest antenna measurement software.

While the R&S SMBV100B simulates all possible GNSS satellite constellations at any time and geolocation, the R&S CMX500 supports simulations of LTE and 5G NR cellular networks. The R&S CMX500 also supports A-GNSS assistance data messaging over control planes (LPP over RRC) and secure user planes (SUPL). The integration of the R&S CMX500 OBT and R&S SMBV100B allows users to conduct crucial GNSS OTA tests essential for certification and evaluation of positioning performance in smartphones, automotive and high-precision applications.

ETS-Lindgren has a worldwide installed base of OTA systems driven by its EMQuest Antenna Measurement software that combines these capabilities into a complete 5G NR A-GNSS antenna performance solution.

The R&S CMX500 Broadband Radio Communication Tester is a universal test platform for commercial wireless device signaling and RF parametric testing. Along with location-based service testing and protocol stack capabilities for A-GNSS operations, the R&S CMX500 also enables comprehensive PoLQA data performance and voice quality measurements. The built-in fading simulator also makes testing under realistic propagation conditions easier. The R&S CMX500 can be used in all phases of product development, service/repair, regulatory testing, compliance and network operator acceptance.
