Renesas receives its first “AA” MSCI ESG rating

Renesas Electronics Corporation, a provider of advanced semiconductor solutions, announced that the company has received an “AA” ESG rating from Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) for the first time.

AA is the second-highest rating awarded by MSCI ESG Research, a global provider of in-depth research, ratings and analysis of business practices related to environmental, social and governance (ESG).

MSCI ESG Research evaluates and ranks global public companies and select private companies on a scale from AAA (leader) to CCC (laggard) according to their exposure to sector-specific ESG risks and their ability to manage those risks relative to peers.

Since the official launch of the Sustainability Promotion Office in 2020, Renesas has made significant progress in the MSCI ESG rating, with its score improving from B (2020) to BBB (2021) and AA (2022).

“Achieving these results in three consecutive years is a testament to our global commitment to responsible and proactive ESG practice,” said Fujiko Yamaguchi, vice president of the Office of Sustainability Promotion and Investor Relations. “We are honored to have received such a positive review from MSCI this year and will continue to strive for excellence in all areas of our operations by implementing best practices.”

The MSCI ESG ratings are also used in the construction of the MSCI ESG indices, produced by MSCI, Inc. Renesas was selected as a constituent of the MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index in 2021, which is adopted by the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF), the largest pension from Japan.
