Nexperia permite comutação de carga de alta potência em aplicações com espaço limitado

Nexperia enables high-power load switching in space-constrained applications

Semiconductor supplier Nexperia has launched a new series of 500 mA dual resistor (RET) equipped transistors in ultra-compact DFN2020(D)-6 packaging. These devices are designed for load switching in wearables and smartphones.

They are also ideal for use in digital circuits with higher power requirements, such as computing, communications, industrial and automotive applications with limited space.

Notably, the RET configuration in the DFN achieves double space-saving capabilities. First, by ingeniously integrating the bipolar junction transistor (BJT) and resistor into a single package, it offers substantial board space savings. Furthermore, lead-free DFN packaging contributes to space savings.

This strategic confluence of integration and packaging underscores Nexperia's dedication to meeting the compact spatial requirements that define contemporary electronic devices.

To reduce component count and simplify board design, the 12 new RETs combine dual BJTs with integrated bias resistors in the same package. They also include a second integrated resistor parallel to the base-emitter path to create a voltage divider that sets the base voltage. This offers more precise adjustment and better characteristic shutdown behavior.

Because these internal resistors have higher tolerances than external resistors, RETs are suitable for switching applications where transistors operate in an on or off state, helping to overcome the temperature dependence of standard BJTs. They also help reduce costs associated with pick and place and manual handling.

RET devices in this series are available in dual NPN/NPN, NPN/PNP and PNP/PNP options. Unlike similar competing devices, Nexperia RETs fully deliver the specified 500 mA output current from a DFN2020(D)-6 package measuring just 2 x 2 x 0.65 mm. This package is specialized for excellent thermal performance in high power applications, providing up to 1 W of total output power from collector-emitter voltages (V CEO open base) up to 50 V.

Nexperia RET devices are available as standard and automotive parts (AEC-Q101 qualified). The portfolio comprises more than 400 products, including single and dual RETs with a wide variety of resistor combinations. Available in DFN and leaded SMD packages, Nexperia offers the ideal combination for many applications.
