Infineon expands its automotive microphone portfolio

Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) ensures a quiet vehicle interior and provides passengers with a more relaxed driving experience. Furthermore, the use of advanced ANC solutions instead of passive damping methods significantly reduces vehicle weight, which benefits vehicle efficiency.

For ANC systems with an analog interface, Infineon Technologies is now expanding its automotive microphone portfolio with the XENSIV MEMS IM68A130A microphone with flat frequency response for frequencies below 10 Hz. It builds on the successful launch of the first digital MEMS microphone with Infineon's automotive qualification, the IM67D130A, and combines the company's automotive expertise with its technical expertise in cutting-edge MEMS microphones.

The IM68A130A microphone features a flat frequency response, a stable phase response and a very low frequency roll-off (LFRO = 10Hz). The high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR = 68dB(A)) and optimal acoustic overload point (AOP = 130 dBSPL) provide excellent speech performance, making it an ideal product for general-purpose microphones in any audio system.

It can also be used for beamforming and ANC, where microphones are strategically placed in the cabin or in external locations to detect sounds in the cabin. An inverted sound wave is then generated through the speakers to reduce the sound level in the cabin.

Infineon's new microphone is qualified according to AEC-Q103-003, which meets the requirements of the automotive industry. This helps reduce the effort and risk of failure in qualifying modules and systems. The product will be available for at least the typical life cycle of a vehicle, enabling savings in design effort and development of platform solutions.

Furthermore, its wide operating temperature range of up to +105°C allows flexible use in various application environments inside and outside the vehicle.
