How Torrent works

Today, Torrent is the most common word used whenever talking about downloading a movie, TV series, or any large file like software, etc. A torrent file is nothing more than a file consisting of the address and information about the file of interest. So, what is torrent , how torrent became famous, how it increases download speed without affecting bandwidth and how it differs from traditional downloading. We will see,

Starting with torrent :
1). Download the software: The main step for the user is to download and install a software called BitTorrent client, which will track the computers related to the torrent file. We will discuss this later, there are various software available for torrent tracking like utorrent clients, BitTorrent, BitComet, etc.

two). Find the desired torrent file: Whatever type of file you want to download, download it. Downloading a torrent file is very easy. Access very famous websites Ícone de torrent like Bittorrent.com, torrentreactor.com or you can simply do a search on search engines by typing the name of the desired file followed by the word “torrent”. Remember that the torrent file is very small. It is not a data file, but a file with data tracking information. Its extension is *.torrent.
3). Take torrent to torrent software: If you have successfully installed the software from the first step, now just double click on the torrent file and it will automatically open in BitTorrent software.

How it works?

Now it's time to see how the software is fetching the data. Torrent file works on peer-to-peer sharing download method i.e. the file is downloaded in different parts according to its availability. To understand this download scheme, let's follow the following steps:
1). The server consists of the data that a user wants to download. Suppose you want to download a movie.

two). The file is present on the server and being downloaded by different computers in different parts of the planet. Just as there are computers that have already finished downloading the film. Now, as stated above, different computers consist of different parts of the same file. Like a user in North America who completed downloading the first half hour of the film and another person in Sri Lanka downloaded a middle part of the film. Similarly, a single file from the server is being downloaded in chunks between different users. Therefore, each user owns some part of the file.

3). Now it's your turn to download the file, the software you have installed will scan or track the computers that have parts of the file or complete file and start downloading from that computer's hard drive. In simple language, the computer made up of file pieces acts as a server for your computer. The file is downloaded in chunks from different computers, so bandwidth is greatly reduced.

4). Download speed depends on the number of computers that are turned on and downloading the file. And the computers that have finished downloading must propagate the data so that others can download it.

General Terms in Torrents

There are different terms that are being used by torrent and you will come across. They are being stated below:
Seed: Well, if you download a torrent file from any website, you will find comments that say “Please seed” or any similar phrase. Seed are the computers that have already finished downloading the entire file and seeding the data. Your computer is receiving files from them.
Peers: Peers are the computers that do not have the entire file, but contain different parts of the file you are downloading.
Leeching: The user who does not propagate, but disconnects immediately after finishing the download and does not allow other users to download the file, is called leeching. Decreases download speed.
Tracker: As you put the torrent file into the software, it asks the tracker to find the computers that are propagating or that have a small portion of the file (peers)

Swarm: Swarm is the term given to the set of all computers that are detected or tracked by the tracker. The greater the number of computers in the swarm, the faster the download speed.
Upper limit: The upload limit or upload limit is the limit at which the computer is propagating or providing data to other computers that are downloading the same file. It is usually very low (in a few kbps), this is because many small uploads from different computers combine to form a large file which is then shared with other computers.
