In the absence of a law against ransomware payments, which has been proposed in some places, law enforcement authorities encourage companies to avoid paying if possible.

Configure a firewall. Use network segmentation. Use multiple (and different types of) backups. Train employees on what to look for. Make password security a priority. Update software regularly. Use the Zero Trust model. Employ bring your own device (BYOD) restrictions. Are there other ways to recover the data?
Unfortunately, there are no good scenarios if you fall victim to a ransomware attack. All you can do is make the best decision possible and hope for the best.
