The Nyzhankovychi – Malkhovychi automotive checkpoint will open on the border with Poland in the next six months. This was announced by the head of the Lviv Regional State Administration Maksym Kozytskyi.

Kozytskyi, together with the newly appointed head of Poland's Podkarpackie Voivodeship, Teresa Kubas-Gul, inspected the progress of work on the future checkpoint, the construction capsule of which was launched in September 2021. The installation is currently in the final phase .

According to Kubas-Gul, the next stage of the project could be the creation of a pedestrian checkpoint.

Furthermore, the Lviv Regional State Administration has already sent a proposal to the Ministry of Regional Development to supplement the Agreement on the establishment of the Nyzhankovychi – Malkhovychi international road border crossing point with a railway connection. The Podkarpackie Voivodeship sent a similar appeal to the Polish Ministry.

It was also proposed to carry out control procedures at the Nyzhankovychi – Malkhovychi railway crossing point, together with the Polish regulatory authorities, based on the principle of the Smilnytsia crossing point.

Kozytskyi added that the tracks in the Sambir-Khyriv and State Border-Staryava-Khyriv-Nyzhankovychi-State Border sections have been fully re-equipped for international passenger and freight rail transportation.

As the GMK Center previously reported, in January 2024, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal discussed with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk the creation of four new border crossing points between the two countries, in addition to the fourteen existing ones. According to the head of the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers, governments remain committed to developing border infrastructure and logistics.
