Exports of steel products in the month increased by 6.4% per year

In November 2023, the European Union reduced imports of rolled steel products from third countries by 4.5% compared to November 2022, to 1.61 million tonnes. This is based on calculations from Eurostat data.

In November, imports of flat products decreased by 4.1% year-on-year and imports of long products decreased by 5.3% year-on-year – to 1.12 million tonnes and 492.52 thousand tonnes, respectively. Flat products accounted for more than 69% of total EU steel imports in November.

Hot-rolled flat products represented the majority of imports in November, with 415.91 thousand tons (-31% per year), coated flat products – 381.2 thousand tons (+41.5% per year), and other rebars and untreated bars, including twisted rebar – 191.5 thousand tons (+59.5% per year).

In January-November, imports of rolled products into the EU totaled 25.9 million tonnes, a drop of 12.3% compared to the same period in 2022. Imports of long products fell by 23.4% compared to previous year – to 6.52 million tons and flat products – by 7.8% per year to 19.38 million tons during this period.

The main types of products imported by European consumers in the 11 months of 2023 are:

  • hot rolled flat rolled products – 10.12 million tons (+12.5% ​​per year);
  • coated flat rolled products – 5.21 million tons (-19.4% per year);
  • cold-rolled flat products – 1.97 million tons (-5.6% per year);
  • hot-rolled bars and bars in coils – 1.94 million tons (-26% per year).

In November 2023, European Union steel exports increased by 6.4% year on year – to 1.51 million tonnes. Shipments of long products increased by 17.5% per year – to 603.24 thousand tons, and of flat products, by 0.1% per year – to 902.85 thousand tons. In January-November, the number decreased by 3.3% per year – to 15.88 million tonnes, including 7.4% per year for flat products – to 9.83 million tonnes, and 4.2% per year – for long products, to 6.05 million tons.

The largest exports were flat products made from other steel alloys with a width equal to or greater than 600 mm – 2.76 million tonnes (-9.5% per year) and hot-rolled flat products – 2.58 million tonnes (-8.5% per year). ).

As previously reported by , in 2023, European Union countries reduced steel production by 7.4% compared to 2022, to 126.3 million tons. In December, steel production increased by 2.7% year on year – to 9.1 million tonnes.
