The increase in electricity consumption became possible, in particular, thanks to the stable functioning of the energy system
Ukrainian industry at the end of December 2023 increased electricity consumption by 37.6% compared to December 2022 – to 2.34 billion kWh, compared to 1.69 billion kWh a year earlier. About this reported Ministry of Energy (Ministry of Energy).
In November, national industrial companies consumed 25.7% more electricity compared to the same period in 2022 – 2.26 billion kWh against 1.79 billion kWh.
“The increase in electricity consumption by industry and, consequently, the growth of the national economy became possible, in particular, thanks to the stable functioning of the energy system. Despite enemy attacks, since February last year we have managed to guarantee uninterrupted energy supply to both industry and domestic consumers”, commented the head of the Ministry of Energy. German Galushchenko .
Electricity consumption by the population has also increased. In December 2023, Ukrainians consumed 11% more electricity than in the same period in 2022.
It was possible to achieve such indicators thanks to a large-scale repair campaign at energy facilities, in particular, therefore, nuclear power plants generated 10% more electricity than predicted in the UES forecast balance for 2023.
Furthermore, hydroelectric plants exceeded electricity generation forecasts by 37%. Alternative energy sources also slightly improved production forecasts, producing 2% more than forecast volume.
At the same time, thermal power plants and combined heat and power plants showed a significant deviation from the predicted production indicators. Thermoelectric plants produced 24% year on year. less electricity, in thermoelectric plants – by 10% y/y.
It is recalled that in November 2023, NEURC established new maximum price limits for electricity in the “day-ahead” and intraday markets.
For hours of minimum load it will be (from 23:00 to 7:00) 3 thousand UAH/MWh, for hours of medium load (from 7:00 to 8:00, from 11:00 to 17:00) – 5.5 thousand UAH/MWh, for hours of increased load (from 8:00 to 11:00) – 6.9 thousand UAH/MWh, for peak hours (from 17:00 to 23:00) – 7.5 thousand UAH/MWh. The minimum marginal price in the RSN/VSR market will be 10.00 UAH/MWh.
