AWG Wire Gauge Comparison Table

Commonly Used Wire Gauge Comparison Chart, Wire Diameter AWG Comparison Chart

AWG (American Wire Gauge) is a standard for distinguishing wire diameters, also known as Brown & Sharpe wire gauge.

This standardized wire gauge system began to be used in the United States in 1857. The number in front of the AWG (such as 24 AWG, 26 AWG) represents the number of holes a wire must pass through before reaching its final diameter.

The higher the number, the more holes the wire passes through and the smaller the wire diameter. SWG (Standard Wire Gauge) is one of the wire and cable industry standards. BWG (Birmingham Wire Gauge) refers to the gauge of Birmingham wire, which indicates the thickness or diameter of the material.

Conductor Resistance, AWG Wire Gauge, Wire Diameter Comparison Table

Resistivity is a physical quantity used to represent the electrical resistance characteristics of various materials. The resistance of a wire made of a certain material, 1 meter long, with a cross-sectional area of 1 square millimeter and at room temperature (20 ℃), is called the resistivity of that material.

According to Ohm's Law: R=PL/S, the conductor resistance can be calculated. R is the resistance, in ohms. P is the resistivity, in ohmmeters, and is related to the conductor material. L is the length of the conductor, in meters. S is the cross-sectional area of the conductor, in square meters.
