Since FAG Generation C deep groove ball bearings were successfully established on the market in 2008, their product characteristics have been subject to continuous improvement. “We analyze the product, production and logistics and develop solutions in all areas that meet the highest market demands,” explains Thomas Kreis, project manager for Schaeffler's deep groove ball bearings business.
More durable, less noise, low friction and economical
Two new sealing concepts have also been developed. Lower grease loss and better protection against contamination extend the life of the grease and, consequently, the life of the bearing. The new Z-type dust seal with labyrinth seal helps reduce grease ingress by 20% and prevents contamination by 30% compared to the previous design. The patented ELS lip seal, available upon request, offers maximum low-friction sealing action and is particularly suitable for alternating axial loads, such as in motorcycle wheel bearings. The best sealing action, without greater friction losses, is due to the innovative shape of the lip that adapts perfectly to the ring recess. Furthermore, the offset recesses inside the bearing significantly improve the robustness of the bearing during handling, for example during assembly. Additionally, non-contact BRS lip seals and HRS lip seals, starting from the inner ring, are available with increased sealing action in the standard range.
The high quality of the balls and the noise-optimized cage mean that FAG Generation C deep groove ball bearings run significantly quieter than conventional deep groove ball bearings. Additionally, optimized oscillation reduces friction. These characteristics can be attributed to numerous optimizations to track parameters relating to roundness, waviness, roughness and tighter manufacturing tolerances. Reduced friction also leads to lower energy costs during operation.
