Automatic Spiral Punching Machine – Mechanical Project

This project was developed for users to automatically control a spiral punching machine. It consists of sensors, control unit, driver section and relay section, gears and motor configuration.
When the user inserts paper, the sensor detects it and sends a signal to the control section. The control section analyzes the signal and consequently operates the motor. The motor has a built-in gear configuration to reduce speed and increase power.
The motor operates the perforation section to perforate the paper. The punching section consists of punching rods connected to a movable frame. The movable structure moves up and down according to the engine operation. It uses PIC16F73 (28-pin microcontroller). The microcontroller controls the entire operation. The microcontroller program is written in assembly language. This punching machine reduces human labor and the operations are very precise.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

When the user inserts the paper, the sensor detects the paper and sends a signal to the microcontroller. The microcontroller operates a motor in one direction and the motor drives the driving gear and through it drives the driven gear to move the punch press downwards. Then the microcontroller operates the motor in the opposite direction to move the punch press upwards.

1. As the machine is operated automatically, it requires less manpower.
2. Because the speed is higher than manual setting, it is time-consuming.
3. Can be used for mass production.
