The design principle of a mechanical press is to convert circular motion into linear motion. The flywheel, driven by the main engine, engages the clutch that drives the gear, crankshaft (or eccentric gear) and connecting rod to achieve linear movement of the slider. The movement from the main engine to the connecting rod is circular in nature.

Hydraulic oil press (a type of hydraulic press) operates using special hydraulic oil as the working medium and a hydraulic pump as the power source. The force of the pump drives the hydraulic oil into the cylinder/piston through the hydraulic piping. There are several sets of seals in the cylinder/piston, which are different in each location, but have the same purpose of preventing hydraulic fluid leakage. Hydraulic oil then circulates through the tank through a check valve, causing the cylinders/pistons to rotate and complete a specific mechanical action, resulting in productivity.

Now, let's look at the differences between mechanical press and hydraulic press.

(1) The punch press applies fast downward pressure with an inertial force, while the hydraulic press exerts static pressure with a slower downward force. If greater stretching is required, it is better to use a hydraulic press.

(2) Punch presses have rigid speed control and cannot be adjusted, while hydraulic presses are equipped with continuous speed control and the pressure can be changed at any time, making control easier. The degree of deformation of the material is referred to as the amount of elongation. Possible cracks may occur during punching by hydraulic press if the elongation is large.

(3) For small badges or silver jewelry, an ordinary mechanical press is the best choice because of its low stretching pressure and high efficiency. On the other hand, products with high elongation, such as deeper pots and cups, are more suitable for hydraulic presses. Punch presses are best suited for stamping.

(4) Punch presses use mechanical transmission with crank structure, while hydraulic presses use hydraulic transmission.

(5) The most significant difference between mechanical press and hydraulic press is that they are used for different purposes and are different types of process equipment. Punch presses are mainly used for sheet metal cutting, while hydraulic presses are mainly used for sheet metal forming.

Hydraulic presses are widely used in automotive parts processing and in various industries for molding, punching, calibration, shoe making, bag production, rubber molding, pressing of axle and bushing parts, stamping, bending of sheet metal parts , hemming stretching, production of washing machines, electric motors, automotive engines, air conditioning motors, micro motors, servo motors, manufacturing of wheels, shock absorbers, motorcycles and machines.
