O que é threadlocker e por que preciso dele?

What is threadlocker and why do I need it?

Threadlocker is a solution used to seal (lock) fastener assemblies to prevent accidental loosening of fasteners over time. To use threadlocker with fasteners, before installation you will need to apply a small amount of adhesive to the thread of a screw where the nut will stop. Once dry, the adhesive forms a bond that will keep the fastener in place even when exposed to constant vibration.

Thread locking solutions are designed to become solid with little exposure to air. This means that even between the fixer threads this solution will dry. Thread locking solution can also protect the fastener and extend its life where it covers the metal.

Choose the correct threadlocker

Threadlocker is an excellent tool for creating a strong hold on fasteners, but there are factors that must be taken into consideration before application. Below are some things you need to know before purchasing and applying a thread locking solution to your fasteners:

  1. Retention strength – Some solutions may create less retention, while others may create very strong (and difficult to remove) retention. It is important to know whether you will need to remove the fastener again before installation.
  2. Conditions that affect performance – The most important condition for a thread locking solution is temperature. Make sure that if you are in a high temperature environment that you are using a solution that can withstand those temperatures.
  3. Vibration – Severe vibrations can cause fastener assemblies to loosen, even with solution on them, if they do not have sufficient clamping strength.
  4. Contact with chemicals – Aggressive chemicals can have a degrading effect on the solution. If your threadlocker is exposed to chemicals, be sure to choose a solution suitable for those chemicals.

Do I need threadlocker?

By far the best reason to use a thread locking solution is to prevent fastener assemblies from accidentally snapping back due to vibration. Although not necessary in all applications, the solutions can also be used wherever a nut and bolt are joined together. We suggest using a thread locking solution whenever an assembly is subject to stress or vibration that could cause unintended kickback, or in situations where the assembly will not be checked for long periods of time.
