New SKF 4-row roller bearing extends service life in rolling mills

SKF has expanded its Explorer range with a four-row cylindrical roller bearing (4rCRB), aimed at demanding applications in long product rolling mills.

The new SKF Explorer 4rCRB design offers up to 50% more durability than the previous generation 4rCRB. Gustavo Guerrero, Director of Product Management for CRBs at SKF, says: “Our new SKF Explorer range is more robust, resulting in greater reliability and longer service life. This improves uptime and productivity for customers, which in turn reduces total cost of ownership (TCO) and increases overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

The new 4rCRB bearing helps overcome challenges caused by contamination, high loads, variable speeds and reverse torques, which can cause premature bearing failure, production delays and excessive waste. At the same time, greater robustness against contamination and the ability to form a better lubrication film lead to greater reliability.

Its introduction makes SKF a single source supply of multi-row tapered, cylindrical and spherical roller bearings for long rolling mill customers.

Explorer bearings have properties including reduced friction, increased hardness and improved steel quality, which give them the ability to withstand heavier radial and axial loads and allow them to run cooler, smoother and longer than conventional bearings. standard.
