Automatic Machine for Cleaning Water Tanks – Mechanical Project

Abstract –

The objective of this project is to develop a mechanical system for cleaning domestic cylindrical water tanks. The mechanical system includes two main mechanisms which are rack and pinion gear mechanism and four-bar link reciprocating mechanism. The rack and pinion arrangement is
used to move the entire mechanical system up and down for cleaning the cylindrical tank. The rack is fixed to the engine
and the four-bar mechanism is fixed to the motor shaft.
PVC brushes are attached to the ends of the four-bar linkage. The four-bar linkage is made in such a way that it can be adjusted according to the inner diameter of the tank. When the engine is activated, the joint rotates and, with the help of brushes, the tank wall and base are cleaned. The objective of this project is to reduce human effort and avoid chemical influence on the health of the person who enters the tank for cleaning.

Need for Cleaning

Water Tank Every day we use water from the tank to brush our teeth and take a shower, to clean and iron clothes, to wash clothes and for other household tasks. Over time, sediment, scale and algae deposit on the walls, roof and bottom of the water tank. This testimony
contaminates the water and makes it unfit for use. Over time, algae and bacteria grow and reproduce in this water, infecting it and eventually making us sick. That's why cleaning the water tank is very important.

Water tank cleaning methods

Manual scrubbing, in which the tank wall and bottom are scrubbed to remove dirt, sediment, fungus and stains, but this method is more tedious and time-consuming. The water tank can also be cleaned with chemicals to remove dirt and sediment. O
Chemicals used can affect human health.
Pressurized water can be sprayed onto the tank walls, which will remove dirt from the tank surface. These methods are time-consuming and require more cleaning efforts.

METHODOLOGY
First all the water is removed from the tank. The detergent is then sprayed on the inner wall of the tank to facilitate the removal of dirt. The entire system is inserted in the retracted position in the tank. The four-bar linkage is then adjusted according to the diameter of the tank so that the brush at the end of the shaft touches the bottom of the tank. Now the engine is running. The four-bar linkage begins to rotate along with the axle. This causes the internal wall of the tank to rub against the brush attached to the ends of the joint. To clean the top of the tank, the entire mechanism is rotated along the guides with the help of a handle connected to the rack and pinion arrangement. This way, the tank is cleaned in a minimum amount of time.

CONCLUSION
The water tank cleaner was used to clean the water tanks using rotating brushes. This method was more effective and safer than conventional methods.
This method is capable of cleaning water tanks in less time and human effort.
