What is L shaped steel?
L-shaped steel, commonly referred to as angle steel, is a new type of profile designed to meet the demands of large-scale shipbuilding.
When its height is equal to that of a flat steel profile, L-shaped steel has a higher section coefficient and greater stiffness compared to spherical flat steel.
Having a larger section coefficient increases a ship's storage capacity and increases its economic efficiency.
Furthermore, with the same section coefficient, the L-shaped steel panel is slightly thinner than the spherical flat steel, which benefits the welding quality.
Steel L Beam Type
L-shaped steel is mainly categorized into two types: equal angle steel and unequal angle steel. The latter can further be divided into two subtypes: equal thickness on unequal sides and unequal thickness on unequal sides.
Calculate weight of steel L beam (angle steel)
According to the dimensional, shape, weight and allowable deviation specifications of hot rolled steel section (GB/T 706-2008), the length of hot rolled L steel beam is generally between 5m and 19m.
Typically, L beam steel can be delivered based on actual weight or theoretical market weight. The deviation between the theoretical weight and the actual weight of L-beam steel should not exceed ±5% to ±3%.
