Welding Basics: Symbols and Graphics
INTRODUCTION:
Welding can be described as a process of joining two pieces of metal or alloy by increasing the temperature of the surfaces to be joined so that they become plastic or molten. This can be done with or without applying pressure and with or without adding metal.
Welding symbols:
When welds are specified in engineering and fabrication drawings, a cryptic set of symbols are issued as a kind of abbreviation to describe the type of weld, its size, and other processing and finishing information. The purpose of this practice is to introduce common symbols and their meaning.
