A bicicleta elétrica com teto retrátil espera manter os ciclistas secos

Electric bike with retractable roof hopes to keep riders dry

Could the days of putting a plastic bag over your bike seat to keep it dry in the rain be over? The solution could be a new electric bike called the AllWeatherBike with an integrated roof.

New Atlas reports that this fully functional prototype comes from a German cyclist and businessman named Tom Eisner.

It doesn't look like an ordinary bicycle, with two curved aluminum beams arching over the rider. If the weather starts to deteriorate, the rider can pull a sheet of clear plastic from a roll in front of the handlebars and be protected from precipitation within three seconds.

The cover is attached to a rear crossbar and can be removed and returned to the front once the rain stops. As long as rain lies ahead, the rider's legs must remain dry. Eisner also says the plastic sheet can withstand high winds.

As for the electric aspect of the bike, it includes a Bosch bottom bracket motor. The motor can contain a pair of 75Wh frame-integrated Bosch lithium batteries. According to Eisner, it allows the bike to travel a range of 62 miles with the help of the engine.

Other features of the AllWeatherBike include disc brakes, belt drive, mudguards, kickstand, front and rear racks, and height-adjustable saddle. Eisner did not release the weight, but thanks to its width, which corresponds to that of a normal bicycle, the AllWeatherBike could be used on cycle paths.

The bike will be exhibited at the Eurobike fair and Eisner hopes that a company will express a desire to produce it.
