9 Surprising Uses for a Can of WD-40

wd-40 how to use it

Do you have a practically full can of WD-40 on hand, or are you just looking to try something new? Here are nine surprising ways to use WD-40 to solve some common problems in your kitchen and home.

1. Remove dirt from tile joints.

Like magic, a few sprays of WD-40 will remove dirt from your tile floor or backsplash. Simply spray the affected area, leave it on for a few minutes and clean with warm water and soap.

2. Remove gum from anything.

You'll need a can of WD-40 if you (or a child in the house) have a gum-chewing accident. Spraying on some WD will make it ten times easier to remove sticky substances from whatever you need, whether it's your hair or your dining room carpet.

3. Scrub stains from stainless steel sinks.

Are there any stubborn stains that keep your stainless steel sink from shining? Try spraying it with WD-40, then scrubbing with soap and water and watch the stain disappear.

4. Remove adhesive label residue from glass bottles.

Same premise here as the eraser trick: WD-40 can remove sticky residue from almost any surface. If you want to reuse glass jars, use WD instead of standard hot, soapy water and you'll spend a lot less time standing at the sink.

5. Remove tea stains from kitchen countertops.

Tea stains are no match for a spritz of WD-40. You can spray the product directly on the countertop or spray some WD-40 on a sponge or cloth and wipe the stain away.

6. Separate the stuck glass.

What's more frustrating than a pile of fragile glasses stuck together? Spraying some WD-40 into the cracks will lubricate the glass and make it easier to separate. Just be sure to wash your glasses well before using them again.

7. Remove scuff marks from hard floors.

Ceramic floors are easy to clean, but also easy to scratch. Take care of uneven marks by spraying some WD-40 on the affected areas and wiping them with a damp cloth.

8. Keep the handles of wooden gardening tools free of splinters.

If you've ever suffered a splinter while handling wooden-handled shovels, get ahead of the problem and lubricate your tools with WD-40. The lubricant will keep the wood moist and prevent it from splintering during use! Just something to keep in mind before the gardening season starts.

9. Reduces the shine of the wooden floor in the dining room or kitchen.

Don't like the ultra-glossy look after coating your hardwood floors with polyurethane? You can easily tone it down a bit. Simply mop the floor dry with a mop sprayed with WD-40.
