Chinese 8Cr13MoV Stainless Steel
8Cr13MoV steel is made by Chinese stainless steel manufacturers with reference to AUS-8 stainless steel produced by Aichi steel, and its naming method refers to GB/T 20878, GB/T 1220, GB/T 3280 and GB/T 4356 (see notes below).
Grade 8Cr13MoV stainless steel belongs to the Cr13 series steel. Increases carbon content based on 3Cr13 stainless steel and adds alloying elements such as molybdenum (Mo), vanadium (V) and nickel (Ni) to improve quenching hardness, wear resistance and toughness. This steel has been used to make high quality knife blades.
Compared with 3Cr13 and 5Cr15MoV, 8Cr13MoV steel has higher quenching hardness, but has low resistance to quenching softening.

Mechanical properties
Chinese 8Cr13MoV stainless steel can be quenched to 1050°C to obtain the highest hardness value, Rockwell hardness can reach above 62 HRC, high hardness helps to improve the sharpness and wear resistance of the knife. To improve corrosion resistance and toughness, a secondary tempering process can be selected.
Heat treatment
- Quenching Temperature: 1050 ℃
- Quenching Temperature: 150-180 ℃
Equivalence note
Chinese 8Cr13MoV steel is equivalent to Japanese AUS-8 steel and similar to AISI 440B and 440C.
