The weight of the reinforcing bars can be found in the relevant standards. Manually calculating the weight of reinforcing bars per foot or meter may differ slightly from the values specified in the standards.
It is very important to know the weight of the reinforcement, as there are limitations to variation. Tolerances specified in the code can be changed. Engineers must ensure that the rebar weight is within the acceptable range.
The following table indicates the permitted weight tolerances.
Rebar weight per meter or foot
The following table can be used as a weight calculator. We don't need a manual or computer system for this.
You can use the following table to determine the current reinforcement weight per meter or foot.
Weight of reinforcing bars | ||
Rod diameter | Kg/m – weight of reinforcing bars per meter (m) | Kg/foot – Weight of reinforcing bars per foot (foot) |
6 | 0.222 | 0.067 |
8th | 0.395 | 0.120 |
10 | 0.616 | 0.188 |
12 | 0.888 | 0.270 |
16 | 1,579 | 0.480 |
20 | 2,466 | 0.751 |
25 | 3,854 | 1,174 |
32 | 6,313 | 1,925 |
40 | 9,864 | 3,023 |
50 | 15,413 | 4,724 |
The weight of 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 16mm, 20mm, 25mm, 32mm, 40mm and 50mm reinforcing bars is shown in the table above.
Additionally, it is sometimes necessary to determine the weight of reinforcing bars based on the bar diameter and bar spacing. Mainly when taking into account the quantities of reinforcement in slabs, walls, etc., the following table can be used to calculate the weight of the reinforcement bars.
Rebar Weight Calculator
Let's see how we can calculate the weight of the reinforcement. We don't need a calculator for this. We can do this manually.
After we calculate the unit weight of rebar, we can calculate the weight of rebar per foot or the weight of rebar per 6m and 12m.
Nominal beam area = A
Bare surface diameter = D
Reinforcement density = ρ
Weight of reinforcing bars per meter
Cross-sectional area = A = (π D 2 ) / 4
Volume before meter = A x 1 = (π D 2 ) / 4
Weight per meter = ρ(π D 2 ) / 4
From this equation we can calculate the weight of the rebar per meter of length. The density of the reinforcement is given in kg/m. 3 and rod diameter in m.
Example:
Rod diameter 16mm
Reinforcement density = 7850 kg/m 3
Weight of reinforcing bars per meter = ρ(π D 2 ) / 4 = 7850 x (π 0.016 2 ) / 4 = 1.57833
This value is identical to the table above and has been rounded to the nearest decimal place.
Similarly, we can also calculate the reinforcement weight per foot.
